Zodiac Award

The Zodiac Award is a progressive camping award open to all Scouts with the Bronze Award requiring to be completed before the Silver Award is started. It is not necessary for a level of the award to be completed within a calendar year, indeed in some cases this may not be possible. but it is acceptable if necessary to complete the award.

To gain their Zodiac Bronze Award a Scout must complete the following requirements:

Bronze Award

  • Spend one night per calendar month for a total of eight months in the year under canvas, bivouac or bothy.
  • Two of these camps should be from the list of challenges on the record card.
  • Bronze participants must complete one of SHQ Commissioners Annual Challenges:

    List of Challenges:
    1. At 0 degrees or below
    2. Above 2000 feet
    3. On an island
    4. Outwith Scotland
    5. At sea level
    6. At Fordell Firs, Meggernie or Lochgoilhead
    7. With 20 people or more
    8. In a bivouac
    9. At least 6 feet above ground level
    10. Jointly with Cub Scouts
    11. Jointly with Explorers or Network
    12. With another Youth Organisation
    13. With Overseas Scouts
    14. To complete an Activity Badge
    15. At a conservation project
    16. At an Area event
    17. In a “Spartan” bothy
    18. In a different “Spartan” bothy
    19. As part of an Explorer expedition
    20. Camp for 4 consecutive nights
    21. To complete an Award or Challenge
    22. As part of an Expedition on water
    23. As part of an Expedition on bikes
    24. With a new recruit
    25. As part of an organised Patrol Camp
    26. In a forest
    27. At another Area campsite
    28. As part of a Join-In-Jamboree event
    29. Take part in one of the above activities which involves a member with Special Needs
  • SHQ Commissioners Annual Challenges 2009

    • Challenge 1: Camp as part of a community service activity
    • Challenge 2: Camp as part of an incident hike
    • Challenge 3: Camp as part of your Chief Scout's Gold Award
    • Challenge 4: Camp in an unusual place

    We intend to run our award from Jun 09 – July 10

    To date we have taken part (or have planned) the following camps which fit the criteria:

    • June 09: Forest School – Bivouac in a Forest – Challenge number 8
    • July 09: Auchengillan – with Beavers and Cubs – Challenge number 10
    • August 09: AJ09 – International Jamboree – Challenge number 28

    Scouts should print out the attached form and complete the necessary details and have it signed by a Leader if they attended any of the above camps.
